Pavyllon London is the latest restaurant from the prolific French-born Yannick Alléno, the superstar chef who’s been awarded an impressive 15 stars across 17 restaurants in Paris, Courchevel, Monaco, Dubai, and Seoul. That puts Alléno on a very short, elite list of Michelin’s most-awarded chefs comprised of himself, Joël Robuchon, Alain Ducasse, Gordon Ramsay, Pierre Gagnaire, and Martín Berasategui.

The chef’s table has grown up. Once a behind-the-scenes peek for favoured diners squeezed into a hot corner of a busy kitchen, it’s now front-row seats. Dishes are presented to diners by the chefs, who go on to explain where ingredients have come from and what has been done to transform them. And forget menus — the chefs are free to be guided by their creativity. One of the biggest inspirations for this boom is the Japanese art of omakase. This style of dining leaves the choice of dishes largely to the chef — the direct translation is ‘I leave it up to you’ — and was born out of Japan’s financial boom in the 1990s, when newly minted diners were embarrassed about their lack of menu knowledge and deferred to the chef. From these origins, the chef’s table has become about the pursuit of perfection, eating the best ingredients served in peak condition, expertly prepared right in front of diners.

Chef Michel Roux Jr. has announced that his two-Michelin star London restaurant Le Gavroche will be closing its doors permanently in January.

London is a vibrant, culturally diverse and perpetually evolving city made up of a series of interconnected, but independent, neighborhoods. In all, London is broken up into 32 boroughs that make up what is known as Greater London. Within those 32 boroughs there are roughly 48 neighborhoods as some straddle between two boroughs.

I'm a big fan of Gordon Ramsay. I've watched his shows for years, eaten at his Las Vegas restaurant, and even interviewed him for a story once — I'm happy to report he was nothing like his "Hell's Kitchen" persona in person.

Israel’s Tel Aviv could be the next stop for a Michelin Guide, following a series of inaugural editions released around different corners of the world last year. After years of planning, the Israeli Tourism Minister Haim Katz announced February 1 that the ministry would be moving forward with bringing the guide to the country for the first time.
