A report JLL Hotels & Hospitality will publish this week finds that the Sunshine State’s top hotel markets have been outpacing national averages for revenue growth. Florida’s markets have also shown gains in pricing power even after adjusting for inflation. These trends are encouraging further hotel development there, says JLL.

While 2022 was a post-pandemic boom year for hotel demand in much of the world, total global hotel investment volume decelerated slightly to $71.9 billion, a decline of 2 percent relative to 2021. The relative lack of outbound Chinese hotel investment, the Russian war in Ukraine, and recessionary pressures in several markets tamped down the pace of growth.

Military planners describe moving equipment and personnel into a region where they plan to fight a war in as “setting the theater.” One might also apply the metaphor to hotel investment in 2023. Giant players like Blackstone and Starwood Capital Group are right now “setting the theater” for financial conquest, lining up capital and short-listing assets they want to buy in case optimal conditions fall into place later this year.

As pandemic travel restrictions began to ease in the spring of 2021, foreign tourists returning to Madrid discovered the city’s downtown had undergone a makeover.

Accor said on Monday that it had named Gilda Perez-Alvarado as its group chief strategy officer in charge of overseeing global strategy, relations with hotel owners, and strategic partnerships.
