Visit Qatar, the marketing and promotional arm of Qatar Tourism, and Huawei, one of the world’s global tech giants, announced a partnership to enhance the tourism experience for Chinese visitors and promote Qatar as a premier travel destination in the Chinese market. This collaboration leverages the precise targeting capabilities of Huawei’s advertising platform, Petal Ads, to effectively reach and engage with potential travellers, boosting Qatar’s visibility and appeal among Chinese tourists.

The small Gulf nation of Qatar is relying heavily on events to keep its tourism sector going. During the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the country scrambled to open thousands of hotel rooms, which it now struggles to fill without similar mega-events.

The Qatar Economic Forum commenced its 4th edition on May 14 under the theme ‘A World Remade: Navigating the Year of Uncertainty’. During the session titled ‘From the Gulf to the World: The Future of Tourism’, His Excellency Mr. Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, discussed the future of tourism in the Gulf region. The panel speakers included H.E. Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Mr. Sébastien Bazin, Group Chairman & CEO of Accor.

The World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) has revealed the Qatari Travel & Tourism sector reached new heights last year, with GDP contribution, jobs and domestic traveller spend all surpassing previous peaks. Last year, the Travel & Tourism’s GDP contribution grew by 31% to reach a record-breaking QAR 81.2BN, representing 10.3% of Qatar’s total economic output, demonstrating the sector’s importance to the national economy.

Qatar Tourism extends the Throwback Food Festival until April 15, adding an additional five days to its month-long run. The Throwback Food Festival was inaugurated at the beginning of Ramadan as an initiative to bring together families and people to enjoy multinational cuisines and Qatari traditions during the holy month.
