With music blaring, I was surrounded by hundreds of people excitedly jumping up and down, waving their hands in the air.

On the surface of a frozen river outside the small Alaskan city of Fairbanks, crowds are gathered in the morning sunshine. Adults hold flasks of coffee and gleaming red Solo cups as snow crunches beneath our boots. Children zip down the river banks on sleds, and idling snowmobiles hum over the anticipatory chit chat. Suddenly, over a loudspeaker, an announcer with the tenor of a Top 40 radio disc jockey begins to count down from ten, causing everyone else to fall quiet. We cast our eyes up a trail marked along the ice and toward the starting line back up on land, squinting for a glimpse of the first musher and their dog team. In a flash, 64 paws canter past in unison to be met by cheers.
One minute we were barreling down the straight at 180 mph; the next, our bodies were pummeled by lateral g-forces as we careened around a tight corner. We did this over and over again as we screeched through the 3.8-mile Las Vegas Grand Prix track, the street circuit that runs counterclockwise on the Las Vegas Strip. When I slid out of the car, less than three minutes later, my heart had leaped out of my body, my legs were jelly, and I couldn’t stop grinning.
Disney movies always have a happy ending, but you can't get to the "happily ever after" without some struggle, conflict and heartache. Like its beloved films, Walt Disney World's current expansion plan follows a similar storyline.

When planning a trip, the first things to sort out are typically how you'll get there and where you'll stay. Once those foundational elements are locked down, you can get into the nitty-gritty of how you'll spend your days—and it's these activities that often become the core memories of a trip. Maybe there's a food market you're dying to roam through, or a concert the visit is planned around. Perhaps this trip is your chance to try a new sport, like surfing, or push your adrenaline further by skydiving. While looking back at our year in travel, we decided to poll our editors on their most memorable travel experiences of 2024, in hopes it'll inspire some of your future itineraries.
Imagine walking down Main Street, USA, at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom only to realize that the cute shoes you’re wearing are starting to give you blisters before you’ve even gotten on the first ride of the day. Finding the right shoes to wear for a full day of walking around the Disney Parks is crucial—blisters and foot pain can quickly cut your day short. With an abundance of different shoe types, brands, and price points to choose from, it can be hard to know what shoes are the best to wear to Disney World, or any theme park, for that matter.

“Don’t ever call this work, ok? Ever.” I can't help but think of this line, which Beth Dutton shouts to her husband, Rip Wheeler, in Season 5, Episode 6 of “Yellowstone," America’s most watched television series. They’re on horseback overlooking a golden Montana meadow, as he leads the team of ranch hands on a cattle drive, moving hundreds of animals across the mountain.
Celia Fuller, a book designer based in Tuckahoe, New York, often lets her personal passions determine her travels. For many years, she joined friends in Montreal to attend Formula 1 races.
It's not even the holiday travel season, and airline passengers are being asked to pack extra patience. The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport recently published an advisory to passengers traveling to or from Austin to arrive early and expect a record volume of passengers in the coming days. The city will be hosting two major sporting events during the upcoming weekend, including both the Formula 1 race, as well as an SEC football game between home team The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Georgia «As October is notably a lively travel month for Austin, AUS asks passengers to plan for record-breaking busy days at the airport,» the airport shared in an advisory to passengers. The airport reports that Thursday, October 17 through Tuesday, October 22 will be the busiest travel days, as the SEC football game takes place on Saturday, and the Formula 1 race takes place on Sunday.
One of the best things about running is the low barrier to entry—throw on some sneakers and you’re ready to go. But as you start to increase your mileage, whether you’re training for the New York City Marathon, a Rock 'n' Roll half, or a local 10k, you start to realize that what you wear, how you fuel, and the accessories you carry are all critical to your success—in other words, there comes a time when you'll want to upgrade your road running shoes or swap out that old gym shirt for a moisture-wicking option.

Something wicked this way comes ... to Disney's Hollywood Studios next summer.
I've always used points and miles as a tool to enjoy travel experiences that I could typically never otherwise afford to purchase. Over time, this has often meant maximizing my rewards to book first-class flights and fancy hotel rooms. But aside from staying in Waldorf Astoria hotels and booking first-class flights on Japan Airlines' newest A350-1000 aircraft, your points can also be used to book special events and exclusive experiences.

On Saturday evening at the Disney Experiences Showcase during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro revealed dozens of new lands, attractions and experiences coming to Disney parks across the globe.
Generally speaking, my post half marathon recovery looks a little something like this: Go back to the hotel or Airbnb, stretch out on the floor for a few minutes, Hyperice the heck out of my legs, take a shower, and head back out to see more of whatever city I'm in. As my friends and I make our way through a goal of running this distance (13.1 miles) in every state, my recovery plan hasn't evolved much beyond this routine. So when the opportunity presented itself to try the much more elevated suite of wellbeing services offered to amateur athletes like myself at Park Hyatt Chicago, I jumped on it.
I’m as close to the action as it gets, standing with my toes pressed up against the outer perimeter of the half-mile dirt track. Surrounding me is the sound of thousands of spectators cheering on the fearless Indigenous relay racers astride horses at an all-out run. We’re hooting and hollering as they come around the bend, jump down from one horse, then leap onto another, which immediately breaks into a gallop. Few if any of us onlookers have ever participated in this high-adrenaline sport, but we’re all invested, because the electric energy emanating from the athletes—both human and horse—is absolutely contagious.
