My Favorite Airbnb: An Off-Grid San Miguel de Allende Hideaway Perfect for Design Lovers

Sitting in the back of a well-worn pickup truck, my shoulders sore from the 65-liter backpack I’d been living out of, I struggled to keep the provisions I’d stashed for the next two days from rolling on the floor: gnarled-skinned avocados, a large perfectly ripe papaya, El Cafe de la Mancha’s paper packet of freshly ground coffee, homemade pecan and cashew granola, Chilean Malbec, and the ingredients for a very un-Mexican spaghetti bolognese.

5 Luxury Hotels In Central America Celebrating The Day Of The Dead

For most of us living north of the border, Halloween is a one-night affair for the young and young at heart. In Mexico and other parts of Latin America, Dia de los Muertos (“The Day of the Dead”) is celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2, and in some regions on Oct. 31 and Nov. 6 as well. Its customs are for all ages, and more spiritually significant than trick-or-treating: everything from bringing offerings to the graves of the departed (often marigold flowers and the deceased’s favorite foods or beverages) to homemade altars and incense to lure the spirits of the deceased. Celebrations also honor the living. Many drop off treats like candy sugar skulls to their family and friends.

In Mexico, a New Space for Hot Pink Wicker Lamps and Spiky Bowls

I have quite dry skin and eyes, so I need all the moisture possible. I use a Neostrata Matrix Support day cream and Intensive Eye Therapy; then when I shower, I use Dermafix DermaPolish + Activated Charcoal. I feel like I have great skin now, but it’s been a journey to maintain it. Dr. Fatima Bhabha, my doctor in Johannesburg who specializes in aesthetic medicine, really got me thinking that I need to follow a routine and use sunscreen. I use this Italian brand, BioNike Defence Sun 30 Mineral Cream. On my body, I use Nivea Men All Seasons Moisture Body Cream, and because I have such dry skin I always use aloe vera to moisturize. My grandmother always had the plants outside and would slather me with aloe.

Editor's Letter: When Travel Shapes Our Sense of Style

When I backpacked through Europe for the first time after college, I often found myself gazing not at the famous paintings in the Louvre or the grandeur of La Sagrada Familia but at European dudes’ sneakers. Especially in Paris and Barcelona, there were so many unfamiliar styles and brands on display that just looked so...cool. Eventually I ducked into a random shop in Florence and came out with a pair of white-and-red Golas that would make me feel much more stylish than I probably was as I sauntered around San Francisco the rest of the summer.

Cozumel: an insider's guide to Mexico's Caribbean jewel

Most people visit Mexico's Isla Cozumel for one of two reasons: to scuba dive, or to kill time with food and drink before their cruise ship takes off again. Every day, up to ten cruise ships – each with several thousand passengers – will dock on the island and unleash a barrage of crowds to its beaches and streets.

Madrid or Barcelona: which should you visit first?

Spain’s two biggest cities have long had a friendly rivalry – and it goes far beyond football. Madrid is, of course, Spain’s capital city and as well as being more or less geographically at the centre of the country, it is also the centre politically, economically and culturally – as well as the home of the Spanish monarchy.
