Jetblue spirit merger tips

Spirit Airlines is expecting to receive anywhere from $150 million to $200 million in compensation for grounding some of its planes due to issues with Pratt & Whitney engines. 

Spirit CEO Ted Christie criticized the current state of the airline industry, saying that profits have been “concentrated around two companies,” during a call with analysts on Monday. 

JetBlue has had a rough few years. Its attempts at growth — whether through the Northeast Alliance with American Airlines or its merger with Spirit Airlines — have been struck down in court. 

JetBlue Airways announced Friday that two independent directors would join its board as part of a deal with activist investor Carl Icahn.

It’s been a rough few years for Spirit Airlines. 

After the stinging losses of the Northeast Alliance and a merger with Spirit Airlines, JetBlue is now focused on other ways to achieve profitability. 

JetBlue and Spirit said Friday they are planning to appeal a judge’s ruling that blocked their proposed merger.

JetBlue said Friday it is cutting several routes from its network as part of its effort to return to profitability.
