Skift has looked into the hurdles that several major U.S. cities face in trying to boost tourism — San Francisco and Portland are just two examples.

Airbnb and New York City have often had a tough relationship, one marked by lawsuits and other disputes. Airbnb has argued that New York City’s regulations have hurt its ability to do business, which the company believes will become more challenging when the city starts enforcing its host registration law regarding short-term rentals on September 5.

Over 300 leading companies already plan to attend Skift Global Forum 2023 on September 26-28 in New York City. This includes companies like Marriott, Disney, Accor, Google, Netflix, Hilton, Amazon, Thayer Ventures, Highgate, and U.S. Travel just to name a few.

The Skift Aviation Forum is just weeks away. Taking place at the historic Statler Hotel of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas on Wednesday, Nov. 16, the forum will be a full day of insights, education, and networking with our speaker lineup of aviation leaders from up and down the Americas. 

In its annual outlook for the travel industry, Skift Research has created 2023 global revenue forecasts for airlines, hotels, short-term rentals, cruise lines, and online travel agencies. Skift also built an estimate for international cross-border travel from 2023–2025. This outlook is meant as a companion piece to our recent State of Travel report that offers in-depth coverage of all travel segments.

Skift is gathering travel leaders from across the globe in Dubai this December to look at the larger context of travel in the Middle East and what lies ahead for this important region. Executives from two new airlines, Connect Airlines and Breeze Airways, shared their strategies at the Skift Aviation Forum in Dallas for starting up and pushing forward.

The travel industry has experienced extraordinary growth over the past decade. This year alone, expenditures for the global travel industry are expected to reach nearly $6 trillion. As those of us in the industry know, it’s also highly complex and rapidly changing. No digital intelligence company has stayed closer to these ongoing shifts in traveler behavior and market dynamics than Skift.

Over 200 leading companies are attending the Skift Aviation Forum this week at the historic Statler Hotel in Downtown Dallas on November 16. This includes companies like Southwest Airlines, Air Canada, American Airlines, and Sun Country, just to name a few.

At at time when the travel industry is still grappling with a labor shortage, you have to think some companies in the sector are “labor hoarding,” hanging on to workers that might have otherwise been downsized for costs savings or seasonality reasons, simply because of the fear of not being able to fill roles later.

Skift Research has been tracking the performance of the major travel sectors in 22 countries since the beginning of the pandemic in the Skift Travel Health Index. We have seen a steady upward trend, but the final push to full recovery seems more stubborn than we initially thought.

The inaugural Skift Aviation Forum welcomed Robert Isom, the CEO of American Airlines, as its first speaker at the Statler Hotel in downtown Dallas. During the interview he shared how the world’s biggest airline was prepared for the upcoming Thanksgiving vacation, and already looking ahead to the future with a focus on recruiting and training pilots, and staffing the carrier back up.

Azul Brazilian Airlines doesn’t expect any ultra-low cost carriers to enter Brazil any time soon. The low cost carrier has 165 aircraft that fly to 170 destinations in Brazil and will flies just under 1000 flights a day next month.

Linda Jojo, chief customer officer for United Airlines, described a slew of ways the major airline is changing the customer experience during the Skift Aviation Forum in Dallas. 

The dynamics of ancillary travel product distribution for airlines is continuously changing. Brand loyal customers are the order of the day. Yet in symbiotic ecosystems where airlines use online travel giants like Expedia to tailor their travel packages, competition for loyal customers is unavoidable.
