Frontier Airlines is strengthening its existing service from a major Midwest city early next year. This week, the ultra-low-cost carrier revealed plans to establish a new crew base at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) in March of 2024. To celebrate, it’s offering discounted fares, priced as low as $29, to the 17 destinations to which it now flies from CLE.

Passengers who were on British Airways’ Flight 112, from Kennedy International Airport in New York to Heathrow Airport outside London, received some good news early Thursday morning. The flight, which normally would have taken about six hours, was going to arrive 50 minutes early.

A summer getaway to Alaska just got easier.   Alaska Airlines is launching the longest flight in their network, a direct from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Anchorage, Alaska. The seasonal flight will be the only direct route from the New York hub to Anchorage, and will begin daily operations on June 13, 2024.  Due to the 3,386 mile distance of the route, the flight will be operated on a new Boeing 737-800, which can accommodate the longer flight time, according to a statement from the airline. In addition to the flight to New York, Alaska Airlines also announced the launch of a new nonstop from Anchorage to San Diego starting on May 18, 2024. This service will operate weekly, utilizing a Boeing 737 aircraft.  «During our peak summer days, we'll have a robust flight schedule of 63 departures a day from Anchorage,» Alaska Airlines Regional Vice President Marilyn Romano said in the release.

The effort to draw business, in the wake of major loyalty program news from carriers like Delta Air Lines (which sent many of its top-elite SkyMiles members fleeing for alternative airlines), has never been stronger. Wooing customers is also an important consideration as the holidays near, and travelers begin to make busy travel plans. Here are some of the latest updates and changes in the airline industry you should know about to be more informed for your next trip.

New urban hotels regularly promise a fresh take on big-city lodging. Thing is, all too often, hotels fail to be much more than cookie-cutter cutouts of high-end properties found in other cities. The Rally Hotel at McGregor Square, the baseball-themed commercial hub adjacent to Denver’s Coors Field, breaks this mold with an experience as intoxicating as the roar of the crown after a dinger bounces off the left field concourse across the street. The hotel, the newest in Denver’s Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhood, features 182 rooms rising above the McGregor Square complex, also home to a food hall, beer garden, and shopping. Immediately upon walking through the doors, it felt to me like a spirited spot to spend a night in a bustling entertainment district just two blocks from Denver’s Union Station, which provides direct access to Denver International Airport and other attractions via local rail lines and bus routes.

That is increasingly the question as some of the nation’s most important—and often controversial—issues are no longer being decided by wildlife professionals whose charter it is to manage natural resources for the greater good. Instead, animal welfare groups and others have staked a clear strategy to circumvent state agencies through the referendum process. That is, if you want to ban mountain lion hunting or introduce wolves to a state, you have only to collect signatures from a population generally easy to sway with emotional media campaigns and overwhelm your opponents on election day— poor outcomes for people and wildlife be damned.
