Accor reported strong results for the first half of the year Thursday, and pointed to promising bookings trends for the second half.

In an industry often criticized for sluggishness, Sébastien Bazin is known for moving fast. Bazin spent much of his early career as a financier at investment banks and private equity firms rather than rising through the ranks of a hotel company.

This is especially true for India, he said, which has accounted for 25% of the emerging middle class in the past 10 years.

Hilton CEO Christopher Nassetta was awarded $56.8 million in pay last year, more than CEOs at rival hotel operators Marriott, Hyatt, Wyndham, Choice, IHG, and Accor, according to recent SEC filings.
