It asks for an increase of as much as 60 percent, raising the price from from £10 to £16. The ETA, as it is known, is being rolled out in phases and currently services citizens for more than 50 countries.Julia Lo Bue-Said, of the Advantage Travel Partnership, said: “Without a thriving inbound sector, you cannot have a thriving outbound industry. The government should be looking to encourage and harness growth, capitalizing on the desire to travel to help our economy prosper by creating jobs and boosting destinations." Tim Alderslade, CEO of industry body Airlines UK, said this “pragmatic step” addresses “the real risk that the UK would lose business to European hubs which don't require transit visas.… We urge that this exemption is made permanent given the vital role that passengers transiting the UK play in making vital international routes viable, particularly to growth markets.”Those with an ETA will not need a Visa and vice versa. But the program could mean as much as 30 million more applications per year. The ETA is for American citizens. Originally it included those with layovers too, but the UK recently withdrew that and ended the fee for transit passengers.

Words can barely do justice to the devastation that has unfolded across Los Angeles this week amid the raging wildfires that have erupted everywhere from Pacific Palisades to Pasadena.Entire neighborhoods have been wiped off the map and residents have lost a lifetime of treasures. At last count, the death toll from the unprecedented four-day fire event stood at 10 and more than 9,000 structures have been destroyed or damaged. The Biden Administration has swiftly responded to the climate change-driven crisis. The president visited California on Wednesday and later vowed that the federal government will cover 100 percent of the disaster assistance costs for California for the next 180 days.“I told the governor and local officials, spare no expense to contain these fires,” Biden said. “We’re doing literally everything we can at the federal level.”The president has sent 400 additional federal firefighters to the state and more than 30 firefighting helicopters and planes. Canada is also providing firefighting aircraft. While all of these measures and promises have brought comfort to California, Biden only has 11 more days in office. And President-elect Donald Trump has taken the opposite tact, roundly criticizing California officials for the fires and spreading misinformation and falsehoods that have since been debunked. In addition to the Biden Administration, the travel industry has provided an outpouring of assistance and support for Los Angeles and its impacted residents.Local organizations such as the Hotel Association of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board are pitching in, as are international, national, and regional tourism industry operators including Airbnb, Delta Airlines, Internova, and Signature. Here’s a closer look at what’s unfolding.

The rapid pace of change across the workplace in recent years has been daunting for workers.A series of recent reports from LinkedIn News revealed that not only do 64% of workers feel overwhelmed by the onslaught of workplace shifts, but worker confidence surrounding the ability to hold onto a job has reached historic lows.Meanwhile, some industries and professions are experiencing tremendous growth at the moment, or something of a renaissance, in some cases. And as it turns out, the travel advisor profession is among them.According to LinkedIn’s research, the travel advisor profession is the fifth fastest growing line of work among 25 of the quickest growing jobs in the United States.Landing on the list (and among the top five, no less) puts travel advisors in the same company as rapidly growing fields like artificial intelligence engineer, artificial intelligence consultant, physical therapist, and workforce development manager — lines of work that ranked in slots one through four, respectively. While the LinkedIn article doesn’t delve into what makes travel advisor jobs such a hot commodity right now, it does identify some of the tasks that come with the profession (in case you’re considering a career change), noting that “Travel advisors help plan and book travel arrangements — including transportation, accommodations and activities — based on clients’ preferences and budgets.”The most common skills required to be a travel advisor, according to LinkedIn, include: travel planning, travel writing, and social media marketing. And the most common industries where travel advisors are employed include travel arrangements, hospitality, and insurance.LinkedIn research also reveals that most travel advisor jobs can be found in New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. The travel advisor field is also dominated by women: It’s currently 80 percent female and 20 percent male. These LinkedIn insights merely scratch the surface, however, when it comes to the travel advisor profession and its powerful growth. The bigger question inspired by the ranking, perhaps, is what makes travel advisor such an appealing career at this moment in time? What is attracting people to the job in droves? And beyond that, what do individuals who are already in the field think about the ranking? To answer some of those additional questions, we reached out to travel advisors across the country.
